August 2006
Dear Friends,
Well
hasn’t this been a lovely summer. It’s hard to believe we have had such a
prolonged period of hot weather. Mind you I’m not sure our gardens have
appreciated it quite as much!!!
I
was just remarking to someone the other day how the keeping of a garden is a
bit of a never-ending task – what with planting, weeding, clearing, cutting
grass, pruning, watering…… and so the list goes on.
Mind
you when it is looking better it all seems worthwhile somehow!!!
After
this conversation I couldn’t help thinking that our individual lives and the
life of the Church is not so dissimilar. We can’t just sit back and wait to see
what happens in our lives or in the life of the Church,
we have to put something back – in order to get something out.
How
we live out our lives as individuals and as a Church will affect how we
function and how effective we are.
On
a personal level we each know, don’t we, what we have to do and how we should
live and that will involve personal commitment on our part. Where the Church is
concerned that’s a communal effort, a pulling together and working together.
And I don’t just mean putting money in the plate (even though that is needed
more and more!!)
It’s
also about the other ways we give to the Church – our time and our talents.
Making the Church our number one priority and being sure that we give it all
we’ve got. We need more helpers in our organisations, volunteers to help with
DIY jobs around the Church, more helpers with the flower arranging and
delivering, helpers for the tea rota….. and so the
list goes on. There are all sorts of ways that you and I can give to the Church
to make things better.
But
along with all of that, and most importantly, it’s how we worship together and
spend time in fellowship with one another. I would certainly like to look at
how we can spend more time together socially – but spiritually as well. So
watch this space………
Whatever
we do now and in the future – the important thing is that we do it together!!!!
So
take care all of you and God bless.
With
love and prayers
Fiona

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides
All
units finished in June after a very enjoyable session and are having a well
earned break over the summer months before the start of the new session in
September.
The
Rainbows finished a fun party with games and food which included a chocolate
fountain which was specially enjoyed by all the rainbows. The party was very
noisy and the girls went home tired after enjoying all the fun and games.
The
Brownies finished with a beach party. The brownies came dressed in their beach
clothes and enjoyed all the fun. The night was filled with laughter and noise
as the girls took part in all the games organised by the guider. The night was
rounded off with plenty of food and drink.
The
guides finished with a parents evening at which the best patrol and guide
presentations were awarded. This year Ailsa McRae was
the best guide and the best patrol was the White Rose which was made up by
Katherine Docherty (patrol leader), Ailsa McRae,
Laura Stewart, Bethany Griffith Jones, Julie McClelland, Nicole Toal and Caitlin McKinstry
A
party of 11 guides and 4 leaders then went for a 12 day trip to
