April 2007
Dear
Friends
Well here
we are into British Summer Time – and as I write this, the sun is shining and
there are blue skies above. How lovely is that? It never fails to amaze me how
much better I feel when the lighter nights are back and we have lovely Spring days like today.
It is such
a lovely introduction to better things to come. Easter lies ahead of us, with
all the joy which that season can and does bring. Such an important time of
year when we remember God’s great love for us – when He sent His Son to die on
the cross to atone for our sins, and then proved just how mighty, awesome,
loving and forgiving He was through Christ’s Resurrection. Here was the
evidence of God’s love to us and for us. And my oh my
isn’t that a real cause for celebration.
I hope that
you will all make a special effort to be part of the Easter celebrations at St
Andrew’s. We’re having services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday at 7.30pm
with tea/coffee afterwards. Then on Easter Sunday we have an Easter Breakfast
before the service – a time to share in fellowship with one another. Then of course our Easter Sunday Service. Please do try to
come along to some or all of these. It’s so nice when we can celebrate as a
Church family – all together!!!
I hope you
all have a very HAPPY EASTER and know the richest blessings of God in your
lives
With love
and prayers as always
Fiona

We have had a busy few weeks in Girls' Brigade. Our night with the small animals went very
well. Thanks to Ann and Bruce who
brought along a Harris Hawk, a baby Owl and 2 Ferrets. 9 Girls were given the opportunity of camping
at Lochgoilhead with 7th Coatbridge
Guides. The entire weekend went very
well with all the girls taking part in Jacobs Ladder, Canoeing, Sailing,
Archery and Abseiling. All the girls
joined together on the Saturday night for a craft night. This was a great opportunity for the girls
and everyone enjoyed themselves. I
would also like to thank Marion Espie for standing in
for me at the camp on Friday 16th March as I had been invited to the Civic
Centre to see Linzi Munro and Barbara Anne Willis receive their Volunteer Award. Linzi
received her award for 100 hours voluntary service and Barbara-Anne received
her award for 200 hours voluntary service.
Linzi and Barbara-Anne were amongst the 183
young women to receive this award presented by Jack McConnell. I was proud to be at the awards ceremony as
their Captain and the girls are a credit to our company.
This session will finish on the 27th March with a visit from the Police
Dog Branch. Parents of the Girls'
Brigade are holding a Prize Bingo night in Crichton Street Hall on Thursday
29th March 2007 at 7.00 p.m Tickets will cost £1.00 each. The company will be bag packing in Asda on Saturday 31st March from
10.00 a.m. till 4.00/6.00 p.m.
We will be having two weeks holiday the same as the school break.
The company will resume on Tuesday 17th April at 6.30 p.m. Our Annual Prize Giving will be held on
Tuesday 1st May 2007 at 7.00 p.m. All
parents, relatives and friends of the company will be very welcome to come
along.
Thanks to everyone who has helped support the Girls' Brigade this
session and who have helped organise fundraisers on
our behalf to allow us to continue.
Hopefully we will be able to take the girls on a day trip to
Irene Krebs, Captain.
BOYS’ BRIGADE
The Anchor Boys are getting ready for parents night.
They had a night at adventure zone which they all seemed to enjoy. The boys are
also looking forward to the Battalion Fun Day at the beginning of May.
The Juniors have been busy
with their competitions, taking part in the Battalion Bible Knowledge and
Figure marching. All boys who took part did very well. The boys are still
playing 7aside football on a Saturday. They also enjoyed a night at the
5asides.
The Anchor Boys and the Junior
section received their visit from the Kirk session. We would like to take this
opportunity to thank Sandra Burns and Elizabeth Russell for taking the time to
come along, although surprisingly enough it was the night that both these
sections had a visit from a fireman, coincidence or what!!
The company section took part in the Scripture
Knowledge where they came sixth in the Battalion. They also did well in the
P.T. competition finishing in fourth place. The Junior
boys also took part in the Battalion 5 asides and although they lost all three
games the boys seemed to enjoy the day.
We also hosted the Battalion spring parade where we
had a very good turn out.
Our annual parents night is
on Friday 27th April at 7pm. Our inspecting officer this year is Mr Tom Gillespie. All parents, family and friends are
invited along on this evening. Please come early to guarantee a seat.
Finally, congratulations to John Scougall
and his wife Terri who are representing the Battalion at this
