Dear Friends,
The beginning of last
month saw an important milestone in our history as we celebrated the tenth
anniversary of our congregation. We
began the celebrations with a gathering in the Church Hall on Saturday 1st
March when about 120 sat down for a very enjoyable buffet meal. The programme began with a welcome from Alex
McKee our Session Clerk, followed by a toast to St Andrew’s Church from Matt Sprott our Clerk to the Board, then Rosemary cut the
birthday cake (with a little help from me!) our Depute Clerk, Dorothy Dunlop
then said grace. After the meal our very
able chairman, Hugh Thomson took over inviting both Tom Clark our MP, and me to speak.
The choir sang among other things, song which Joan Hamilton had composed
for the occasion, Pat Price sang the Jelly Piece Song, Liz McKee sang Memory
and Moira Kyle and Joan Hamilton gave suitable and funny readings. Hugh McKee
one of our joint treasurers gave the vote of thanks. To end the evening we sang a hymn for St
Andrew’s to the tune Highland Cathedral which we were to sing again the
following day. The communion service was
marked by the Sunday School children lighting the
candles on a birthday cake and singing ‘Happy Birthday’ and the choir sang the
anthem ‘Majesty’.
While that narrative describes briefly what
happened it could not catch the fun, laughter, emotions and harmony which we
all enjoyed. My hope is that the next
ten years will be even better!
Easter is just round the corner and the following
Holy Week services will take place:- Easter Encounter
at Townhead each evening at 7.30 p.m. A united communion service in
Wishing you all a happy Easter
Yours sincerely
Ian G. Wotherspoon
